⭐HOT THIS WEEK
Wisden revisited the ICC’s historical rankings to identify the greatest Test all-rounders — judged purely by peak rating points. Only ten players have ever crossed the 500 mark.
🌟 Garry Sobers (669) tops the list, with unmatched dominance across batting and bowling, followed by Ian Botham (647) and Jacques Kallis (616). The rest of the top ten features legendary names: Keith Miller, Richie Benaud, Imran Khan, Tony Greig, Andrew Flintoff, Aubrey Faulkner, and Chris Cairns.
Strikingly, giants like Kapil Dev (433), Richard Hadlee (483), and Shaun Pollock (490) miss out, as do modern stars Ravindra Jadeja (475) and Ben Stokes (498) — both falling just short of the 500 threshold.
The list underlines how rare it is to be truly world-class with both bat and ball — and why the great all-rounders remain some of the game’s most valuable assets. What are your thoughts on this? Do you think Stokes will make the cut come career end?

🧤FIELDING LAB
Cricket Matters share a crossover drill that uses an American football to improve throwing mechanics. A game-changer for developing better arm speed, coordination, and rotational power—especially for fielders looking to level up.
If you or your team struggle with weak throws, shoulder stiffness, or poor mechanics—this drill could be exactly what you need.
🧠THE MIND GAME
Just like tennis champion Maddison Keys admitted after a shock loss in the first round of the US open earlier this week, every cricketer knows what it feels like when nerves tip performance the wrong way. Whether it’s walking out to bat in a tight chase, bowling the final over, or fielding under pressure, nerves can shift focus from the ball in front of you to the fear of what might go wrong.
Physiologically, nerves are just the body’s stress response — adrenaline kicks in, sharpening focus and preparing you for action. That’s good, until it overwhelms. Breathing shortens, muscles tighten, and anxious thoughts crowd the mind.
The lesson for cricketers isn’t to get rid of nerves but to reframe them. Nerves mean you care. They mean your body is primed. The best players accept this and use it — turning the rush into sharper focus, controlled energy, and composure in the key moments.
The question for coaches: how are you helping players learn to channel nerves, rather than fight them?
