⭐HOT THIS WEEK

Behind every strong performance is a body that’s fuelled, conditioned, and ready. Strength, endurance, and recovery all start with the right habits off the field — and that’s where the real gains are made.

On the Royals Coaching Hub, fitness expert Michael Italiano breaks down how cricketers at all levels can build the base needed to train harder, recover faster, and perform better when it matters most.

Because skill wins moments, but fitness sustains seasons.

🏏BATTING LAB

A must-watch for batters looking to level up their game. This breakdown explores the six key scoring zones every cricketer needs to be able to hit, and the specific shots that open up each area. It’s not just about power, but precision and adaptability: learning how to manipulate angles, pick gaps, and build an all-round scoring game.

🎯BOWLING LAB

Pathak100mph dives into the science of fast bowling: tackling biomechanics, stride alignment, and that all-too-common no-ball issue. This session focuses on how small technical errors in action sequencing can lead to overstepping or loss of control, and how to correct them through efficient movement patterns.

For coaches, it’s a useful look at the link between biomechanics and consistency — especially for helping bowlers generate pace safely while maintaining accuracy. Understanding the body’s kinetic chain is key to helping players bowl faster and smarter.

A strong reminder that good fast bowling isn’t just power, it’s precision in motion.

🧤FIELDING LAB

One from the archives. Elite fielding coach Cookie Patel, joined by Warwickshire pro Oliver Hannon-Dalby, delivers a masterclass on how to throw a cricket ball with both power and precision.

The session breaks down the biomechanics of a perfect throw: from body alignment and sequencing to footwork and release timing, helping players generate maximum distance without losing accuracy.

🧠THE MIND GAME

I came across this line from Ed Mylett recently: “Goals set your direction. Standards decide whether you’ll ever get there”, and it hit me hard, especially through a cricket lens.

Every season, players set goals: hit 500 runs, bowl quicker, get selected for a desired team. But it’s not the goals that separate them, it’s the standards they hold when nobody’s watching. The ones who repeat their drills, log their sessions, recover properly, and show up with intent day after day — they’re the ones who make the jump.

It’s the same for coaches too. Our impact often comes down to the standards we model: how we plan sessions, how we communicate, how we keep learning.

Lately, I’ve been looking at my own “small standards”, things like going to bed 20 minutes earlier to improve recovery and focus. It sounds simple, but it’s made a big difference in how I show up on the field and off it.

In the end, goals look great on paper. But standards? They’re what actually change your game.
