COACHāS CORNER
Yashasvi Jaiswal offers a glimpse into his training-day routine, zeroing in on the pull shot. Tap below to watch how he sets up, reads length early and uses precise movements to stay balanced and generate power.
FROM THE ANALYSIS BOX
Sanju Samsonās praise for the Archer-Sandeep combo isnāt just sentiment ā itās a case study in tactical contrast. Archer brings raw pace, intimidation, and a hard length that rushes batters. Sandeep offers the exact opposite: subtle seam movement, off-pace variations, and elite control.
What makes them so effective together is the disruption of rhythm. Batters canāt settle. One over youāre reacting late to 150 km/h rockets, the next youāre reaching for cleverly disguised 115 km/h wobble-seam deliveries. This forces constant recalibration ā mentally and technically.
Archerās presence creates pressure; Sandeep capitalises on it. Itās a sequencing masterclass: high-velocity threat, followed by variation and precision. In crunch moments, this unpredictability becomes invaluable ā and itās one reason Rajasthanās bowling unit has looked so composed under pressure.
England naming Harry Brook as their new white-ball captain signals a bold reset. But is Brook, at 26, the right choice to lead this transition?
Thereās no questioning Brookās pedigree with the bat ā heās been one of Englandās most consistent run-scorers since 2022 across formats. But leadership is a different test. While he showed promise captaining England in ODIs against Australia last year, Brook has limited experience managing pressure across a full campaign or tournament.
What he does bring is a fresh voice, a close connection to the younger core, and a modern mindset shaped by multi-format experience. In a dressing room needing direction, that relatability could matter more than years of seniority. The bigger question: can he balance tactical growth, team building, and personal performance? The West Indies series will offer early insight ā but England clearly believe heās ready to lead their next era.
THE SCIENCE OF SKILL
In cricket, coaching methods have traditionally focused on perfecting technique through repetition, direct instruction, and isolated drills. While this may build technically sound players, it often falls short in preparing them for the unpredictability and intensity of real match situations.
The game demands players who can adapt quickly, think clearly under pressure, and make smart decisions in real-time. And to develop those players, we need to rethink how we coach.
One of the biggest coaching mistakes? Peaking too earlyāor too late. Hit top form in pre-season and you risk burning out mid-season. Start too slow and you miss your shot.
The sweet spot? Peak 6ā10 weeks into the season, then maintain.
Use a simple phase plan:
General Prep: strength, jumps, sprints.
Specific Prep: overload drills, skill stability.
Specific Dev: real bowling, under real pressure.
Shift your training mix from 4G:1S (off-season) to 1G:4S (in-season).
Smart programming = rhythm, intensity, and resilience when it counts.

HOUSE OF COACHES
The Hawkin Dynamics Force Plate delivers important insights into a batterās weight distribution, ground reaction forces, and power generation. By analysing foot pressure shifts and explosive force output, it enhances technique, improves stability, and maximises power transferāhelping players refine their batting mechanics for optimal performance.
